Applications Engineer: working for Yazaki North America, Inc. developing E3 CAD tools.The method used was COM [Common Object Model] and VB for the programming language.The objective was to extract the component required to build the cable harness in the drawing.This was needed because the developer used their own methods to define the components.The method conflicted with the method used by E3 so those tools were not useable.I started with some visual basic scripts and promoted them visual basic to allow me to compile executable files to extract the data.

My role at Zuken USA was to develop and support custom scripts for clients requiring features not provided in the core product: E3 Cable.  (This was effectively a continuation of the Butler position: CAD Database Specialist, involving CIM-Team E3 Cable.)  The position included acting as liaison delivering COM based VBS code to Northrop Grumman from CIM-Team Germany.  At the same time I supported the sales team with their accounts at Lockheed Martin by evaluating the legacy component database to determine the possibility of conversion to the E3 component database.

Systems Test Engineer

The requirement for the position was to: plan, develop and execute systems tests for low volume highly reliable COTS products for military applications.  The products are based on AdvancedTCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture).  The single board computer technologies used are VME and CPCI architecture provided by a German division of GE FANUC.  My role was to participate with the Program Systems Engineer in developing and managing the product life in the development and production stage.  The Systems Test Engineer reviewed all documentation provided by the customer as requirements to assure testability.  This included developing Test Plans, Test Procedures and Test Reports to demonstrate compliance with customer requirements.  Managing the execution of the Test Plan was also the responsibility of the Test Engineer.  This activity required selecting the best facilities to perform the tests.  At times this meant using in-house resources and other times selecting a supplier that could schedule the testing when we were ready to provide the test articles.  In both cases the Test Engineer was required to execute or witness the execution of the tests and assure the correct protocols are met.

Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Perform Software Quality Assurance audits and reviews on software development processes in accordance with DO-178b for the purpose of obtaining Type Certification on the Eclipse 500 aircraft.  Developed software audit plans for Eclipse 500 manufacturing with the objective of obtaining Production Certification.  I was a contributor to the defect tracking system (ClearQuest) use at EAC along with the requirements tracking system (RequisitePro).

CAD Database Specialist

Developed and administered aircraft wiring database.  Created wiring list, was-is, connection verification and ad-hoc reports.  Using VBA, VBS and VB I developed methods to convert AutoCAD DXF files to extract material list and other critical information.  When Eclipse moved to CIM Team CAD system I developed methods using VBS, VBA and VB to manage SQL Server information from multiple CIM-Team E3 diagrams and wire lists into a single aircraft database.

Systems Engineer,

Developed requirements documentation driving the new product development based on marketing requirements.  Developed acceptance tests and oversight of the execution of acceptance testing.  Developed Test Plan database to control all test cases and to be able to generate new test plans based on regression test requirements.  Took the role of Software Quality Assurance for the automated RFID tag testing.  Implemented SQL Server 7.0 to track RFID tag ID and trained developer on the use of the database via ADO over ODBC.


Marconi Communications, Bedford, TX

Engineering Lead/Supervising Engineer, Systems Test,

Defined database requirements for outside development of Test Case database.  Conceptualized and wrote a test script creation environment using MS Word and MS Access using macros and VB code.  The scripting language was UNIX C Shell script.  Developed Project Hours tracking program using MS Word and Sybase using macros and VBA. Wrote C programs to control relay cards for Span Breaker, VF scanner and Alarm Computer. Planned network connection of test system which includes SCO based PCs, a SUN Workstation, and multiple Windows 3.1 Workstations.  Developed an intranet web based Project Hour Tracking system using SQL Server 6.5 that allowed engineers and staff to report their time via a browser replacing the earlier Word version.  The intranet Project Hour reporting system used IIS as the HTTP server, ASP for server side database access, VBS for client side browser control, and SQL server 6.5 for the database engine.  Developed, as a team, a test tool (EAST) that was designed for data communication and telecom testing.  The tool was developed using JAVA by an outside firm to the teams specifications.  The tool itself was tested by my team, which included myself.  This testing was done manually.  I developed an EAST simulator program using VB that created Use Cases.  The program recorded the operator actions and created a Use Case document. 


I served as the TR-303 feature set Test Lead for the Systems Test group.  I was responsible for developing the TR-303 test plan and Traceability matrix.  I organized all the existing test procedures and defined new procedures required for acceptance testing.

 Developed Product Validation Plans for new products. Developed automated test processes for performance of tests and gathering of results using HP Rocky Mountain Basic. Integrated purchased software tools to speed report generation. Trained users in the use of the tools. Justified the purchase of hardware when needed and developed hardware when not available through purchasing. Developed manufacturing process evaluation plan for new product.


While at Siemens I also worked for Quality Assurance, Instrumentation Development providing test tools for manufacturing.  I developed a program that allowed one operator to control four test systems.  The program gathered failure information and passed it on to technicians.  The diagnostic information was automatically passed to repair stations then back to test.  The process was paperless and controlled the individual part to the point where the product was packaged.
